OUR ELDERS

Lavon Henley
Lavon was born and raised in Covington County Alabama.  He entered the US Military in response to the Korean war draft program.  After the military, he received his degrees and certifications as Hospital Administrator from Georgia State University and Ohio State University.  Lavon served for 38 years as a Health Care Executive.  He is married to Virginia and they have two sons and five grandchildren.  Lavon has served as an elder at the Spanish Fort Church since 2002.  He has previously served three other congregations as elder.  He loves music and plays several instruments with the community band Jubilee Pickers. He has a great love for Christ, the Church and his fellow Brothers and Sisters.

Bennie Mullins
Bennie and Katherine have been married since 1952.  They enjoy their large family comprised of one son, four daughters, ten grandsons, twelve granddaughters, seven great grandsons, and six great granddaughters.  He is thankful for his family’s strong heritage, faithfulness in the Lord and participation in His church.  Bennie worked as a civil engineer for 33 years.  After retiring, Bennie served as a missionary to Guyana for eight years where God used him in the establishment of a School of Biblical Studies in Georgetown through which many preachers and church leaders were trained.  After his time in Guyana, he taught in The People’s Republic of China, serving twelve years, launching and directing the China Now!™ ministry.  Bennie has served as an elder at the Spanish Fort church for 29 years.

Don Rogers
Don and Peggy Rogers have been married for over 50 years and have four daughters and seven grandchildren. He has a B.A. in chemistry from Vanderbilt University and a Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A native of Alabama, Don spent most of his adult life in Tennessee, Massachusetts, Delaware, and Germany. After retiring from the DuPont Company in 1993, Don and Peggy moved back home to Alabama in 1997 and found their church home at Spanish Fort. He has twice served as an elder, first in Delaware and now, since 2002, at Spanish Fort. He describes as his goal "to leave behind both physical and spiritual families devoted to God and bound together in love and unity".

Hayes Sherer
Hayes and Rachael Sherer have been married for 25 years and are parents to college students Neil and Katherine.  Hayes has a B.S. in computer science from the University of South Alabama and is employed with RE/MAX Partners as a real estate agent.  Rachael has a B.A. in interior design from the University of Alabama and is an artist with work on display in galleries across the state.  Hayes and Rachael have always lived in the eastern shore area with the exception of an eleven year employment in South Carolina.  Hayes has served as an elder at the Spanish Fort since 2007.  Hayes is also a volunteer firefighter and chaplain with Spanish Fort Fire & Rescue.
